Material Girl

Buffy just stared.

“What?” Willow did that big, doe-eyed innocent thing.

Buffy’s eyes roamed over the outfit. Granted, Willow had a quirky sense of style, but this? There was no way Buffy was going to be seen with her in…that.

Unable to utter more she asked, “Why?”

Grinning, Willow said, “Aren’t they cool? I found the whole outfit in a box of my mom’s old things, and she said I could have it!” She modeled the travesty of fashion proudly.

She was so excited, Buffy just didn’t have the heart. She sighed, “Fine. Just…can we lose the leg warmers? Please?”

Spike snapped one of the bands, coming away with a blue one. “What’re these then?”

Xander said condescendingly, “You don’t know?”

“Girly bracelets, obviously.”

Brown eyes twinkled at Spike. No anger or annoyance. Just…smug amusement.

He looked again at the boy’s wrist. A thin black strand of rubber twined with a purple one. Blue ones mixed with more black, brown and a lone, shining, silver one.

Dawn got up from the couch, whispered briefly in his ear and then walked away giggling. Suspicious, Spike slowly asked, “What do the colors mean?”

Seductively Xander said, “I thought you’d never ask”

Things were so much more innocent in the 80's (or maybe it was me)--colors explained
