ACK!! It's not just Oakland! Fox sucks! Got this today in my e-mail:
Oct. 11, 2007
Dear Buffy Enthusiast,
I'm afraid we have some very disappointing news. Clinton McClung, creator of the BUFFY SING-A-LONG traveling show, called yesterday and opened his conversation with me by saying, “Andy, they shut me down!”
I will not try and explain exactly what is going on - please visit Clinton's website where he has posted an official statement - except to say that it appears the SING-A-LONG was just too darn successful (and terrificly fun) to not mess with it.
We here at the Avalon hope that Fox-TV, Criterion Pictures, Clinton and whomever else is involved in this negotiation can quickly and fairly resolve whatever legal and/or monetary issues exist. We want, and will continue to run BUFFY at the Avalon if permitted and as long as it has a theatrical life in Washington DC.
Please sign the petition Clinton has started and let Fox know how much you want the BUFFY SING-A-LONG and other Joss Whedon productions to be available in "theatrical release."
Buffy was brought back from the dead (perhaps against her will as I have learned recently, she was in HEEAAAVVEENNN - but just go with me here), let's hope the SING-A-LONG can be resurrected as well.
Andy Mencher
Director of Programming
Avalon Theatre
Fox really is a network of idiots. Here's Clinton's McClung's website for more info.
Go sign the petition HERE.
I swear, if I missed my one and only chance to see this thing, I'm going on a rampage.

Date: 2007-10-12 03:30 am (UTC)As promised: I'm just off the phone with my contact at Criterion. He is waiting for more detailed info as well but what he could tell me is that "an outside party" (and I believe him that he doesn't know who it is, has asked Fox for "their share" of theatrical releases of the TV shows. So it sounds like the Writer's strike theory on Whedonesque might be right. I asked him if it was the writer's strike and he said he totally hadn't thought of that but it made more sense than any guess he had come up with. He says that Fox as a business actually wants to figure this out and continue the theatrical releases because it's a good source of revenue and in their best interest to do so.
Looks like people started asking for their fair share of Fox's profits from the shows they killed, and they shut everything down until they can figure out a way to minimise their 'losses'.
I'd say I was being cynical, but this is Fox we're talking about - I may not be being cynical enough.
